Hear Sampha’s Reflective Ballad ‘(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano’

Raw, stripped-back cut highlights singer-songwriter’s upcoming debut LP, ‘Process’

On Sampha’s raw, stripped-down new ballad, “(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano,” the London singer-songwriter reflects on the titular instrument that defines his entire life. “You dropped out the sky/ You arrived when I was three years old,” he croons, speaking directly to the piano that resides in in family home – and on which he wrote the majority of his debut LP, Process, out February 3rd.

Sampha showcases his melismatic vocal style throughout “(No One Knows Me),” singing over silky piano chords and a low-rumbling synthesizer.

The emerging electro-soul artist will perform Friday, January 13th on The Tonight Show. This marks his second solo American TV spot, following a performance last year on The Late Show.

In November, Sampha announced the 10-track Process, which includes his previously released singles “Blood on Me” and “Timmy’s Prayer.” Following the album release, the singer will embark on a world tour, including a brief North American leg set to kick off February 6th in Chicago.

Sampha generated critical buzz with his two early EPs, 2010’s Sundanza and 2013’s Dual. He’s also collaborated as a guest vocalist, producer and co-writer with a wide range of artists, including FKA Twigs, Jessie Ware and Drake. Last year, he appeared on several noteworthy projects, including Kanye West’s “Saint Pablo,” Frank Ocean’s “Alabama” and Solange’s A Seat at the Table album.
