Raekwon collaborated with Lil Wayne and the producer G Sparkz on “My Corner,” a bruising number premiering at Rolling Stone that will appear on the MC’s new LP The Wild. “‘My Corner’ is a flashback to them good ol’ terrible blocks, and we take you back to all-black outfits,” Raekwon told Rolling Stone. “This record must be played at high volume.”
G Sparkz builds “My Corner” around a simple loop, full of twinkling synthesizers and rigid drums. Raekwon raps with calm charisma, barely changing his tone between the verses and the chanted chorus. Wayne appears to take a cue from his host, smoothing out his delivery and rapping with tight rhythmic focus for roughly a minute straight.
“Wayne is a charismatic individual and his flows are dumb delightful,” Raekwon said. “I studied him way back and appreciated the opportunity to trade bars with him. I always heard his voice on this, and I was very pleased hearing him tap dance on a different style of production.”
Raekwon will release The Wild, the follow-up to 2015’s Fly International Luxurious Art, on March 24th. In addition to Lil Wayne, the new LP features contributions from Andra Day, Cee Lo Green and G-Eazy.
