After years of writing and producing Top 40 hits for everyone from Rihanna to Miley Cyrus, hip-hop and reggae fusion duo R. City got some chart love of their own with the the Adam Levine-assisted Top 10 smash “Locked Away.” R. City’s breezy new follow-up, “Again,” shows they may have another hit on their hands.
The romantic, acoustic guitar-driven track tells the story of two lovers separating as the other has to continue working. “Rihanna calls, she needs a hit, I gotta give it to her,” the duo sings on the track.” The big, catchy hook has R. City requesting their partner to “hold me like it’s the last time you’ll ever see me again.”
Though they may not be household names, R. City have been writing songs for popular artists since 2006. From Rihanna’s “Pour It Up” to Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” and Nicki Minaj’s “Only,” brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas have had a long history of writing pop-friendly hip-hop, and vice versa. They will release their sophomore LP as artists, What Dreams Are Made Of, via Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe label in conjunction with RCA on October 9th.
Along with Levine, Akon, Chloe Angelides and Tarrus Riley will make guest appearances on What Dreams Are Made Of. To celebrate the album’s release, the duo will play New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on Friday.
