Hear Pharrell’s Funky New Song ‘Crave’
Pharrell gets funky on “Crave,” a new song written for the Hidden Figures soundtrack. The singer croons and scats over a dense groove filled with choppy electric guitars, thumping bass and trumpet blasts.
The former Voice coach co-produced Hidden Figures and contributed eight original songs to its soundtrack, including the previously released “Runnin'” and “Surrender.” The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and singer Janelle Monáe (in her film debut) portraying three mathematicians whose calculations propelled NASA in the Space Race.
Hidden Figures hits theaters December 25th. The soundtrack, out December 9th, also includes appearances from Monáe, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige, according to Okayplayer.
Pharrell released his last solo LP, G I R L, in 2014, but he’s stayed busy as a producer and Voice coach. He recently teamed with Cat Power as guests on Cassius’ “Go Up,” joined A$AP Rocky for his song “Hear Me” and executive produced country group Little Big Town’s Wanderlust album.
The singer-producer also recently worked with Justin Timberlake for his in-the-works next LP, telling Variety they’ve already completed “a good solid six [songs] that are like, ‘Whoa, what was that? Play that again.'”
“If you’re able to really screenshot your own vulnerability, and frame it properly, and color-correct it, then it becomes something that every human can relate to,” he said of working with Timberlake. “And I think Justin is in the place where he’s mastering that right now.”
