One Direction have been slowly unveiling songs from their new album, Made in the A.M., which will come out Friday, and the latest is the plaintive track, “What a Feeling.”
The mid-tempo tune finds the guys singing about how they can’t get close enough to the girl they love and how they feel like kings when they’re with her. The group’s Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne co-wrote the nostalgic-sounding tune with frequent collaborator Jamie Scott and two newcomers, Daniel Bryer and Mike Needle.
Tomlinson tweeted out a link to the tune, calling it “another banger” and suggested that it was Payne’s favorite on the record. Rather than reply, his bandmate posted that it was “one of [his] favorites.”
The song’s release follows a string of new Made in the A.M. tracks, including the ballad “Love You Goodbye,” sing-along-ready “End of the Day” and folky “History.” They also released a song about their bad-boy personas, “Perfect.”
In a recent interview with frequent One Direction collaborator Julian Bunetta, Rolling Stone suggested that Payne and Tomlinson had evolved into a formidable songwriting pair. “They’ve written a few classics, those boys,” he replied. “The process is interesting because there’s a lot of people in the room. … Everyone is very headstrong and very, very talented, so it’s a fight, a lot of the times. Sometimes it takes days before we all agree on something. It’s a good fight!”
