Hear Nicki Minaj’s Roaring Remix of Rae Sremmurd’s ‘Black Beatles’

This week, Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” climbed to Number One on the Hot 100, ending the lengthy, 12-week reign of the Chainsmokers’ “Closer.” Nicki Minaj was quick to congratulate Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane by releasing her own “Black Beatles” freestyle called “Black Barbies,” for free download on SoundCloud.
On “Black Barbies,” Minaj moves easily between vocal deliveries: clean, pop croons to patois-inflected rap-singing and her signature maniacal giggle. She makes several allusions to the recent presidential election: “Island girl, Donald Trump want me go home,” she raps. “Still pull up with my wrist like a snowcone.” Later she raps, “Now I’m prayin’ all my foreigns don’t get deported.”
This is not the first time Minaj has shown her appreciation for Rae Sremmurd. When the duo was first exploding behind the unstoppable hit “No Flex Zone,” Minaj hopped on a remix of the track. And when the duo released their debut album, Sremmlife, Minaj was featured on the single “Throw Sum Mo.” Like both of those songs, “Black Beatles” was produced by Mike WiLL Made-It.
The rise of Rae Sremmurd’s latest single was rapid once it was adopted as a soundtrack for popular Mannequin Challenge videos. The duo made their own Mannequin Challenge video during a show on November 3rd. Even Paul McCartney got in on the fun, posting his own challenge clip on November 10th.
