With Maroon 5‘s smash “Sugar” climbing to Number Three on the Hot 100, Adam Levine and Company added a little more firepower to the track by inviting Nicki Minaj to sweeten up the V single’s remix. The Pinkprint rapper contributed a new, albeit brief opening verse to the track, but she makes her presence felt in her short but sweet turn at the mic.
“I got the Now and Laters and the Jolly Ranchers, too/It ain’t a question but I got the answers, too,” Minaj raps before seguing into a quick aside about stripping for her man. “I’m gonna show him to do it like the panthers do/Show these girls how to do it off-campus, too/As long as he know he got the baddest, I’m flattered/I’m the only one that he answers to.”
“Sugar (Remix)” arrives almost two months after Maroon 5 dropped the music video for the V track. The video depicted Adam Levine and crew crashing actual weddings in Los Angeles and, to give the idea more clout, the singer recruited his friend and Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin to film the experience.
“It was an out-of-body experience,” Levine said of the “Sugar” shoot. “I had no idea I would be affected by the overwhelming reactions we received from the couples and guests. Being able to create an unforgettable experience for several people was the highlight of it all.”

“Sugar” is the third V single to be remixed with a newly added rap. The album’s first, “Maps,” was reissued with Big Sean contributing a verse. And “Animals” came out with two remixes, one spotlighting J. Cole and another featuring Big Boi.
