Hear MSTRKRFT’s Throbbing New Song ‘Little Red Hen’
Canadian electronic duo MSTRKRFT have premiered the squelching “Little Red Hen,” their first new material in five years. The wild house track, which features four minutes of growling synth-bass and blaring electronics, debuted Saturday via Beats 1 show “A-Trak Presents Day Off Radio.”
“Little Red Hen” – which is available to purchase on iTunes via Last Gang Records – marks the group’s first release since a pair of 2011 singles, “Back in the USSA” and “Beards Again.” The duo released their second and most recent LP, Fist of God, in 2009.
“It’s probably the most accurate reflection of how we work onstage,” the band’s Jesse F. Keeler said in a statement about the new track. “We had to be very creative with very few elements. It took time to figure that out. ‘Little Red Hen’ is an honest representation of where we’re at right now.”
“A big part of the sound is the curation of equipment,” added Al-P. “There’s no trickery — what you hear is what you get and we’re not manipulating anything afterward. We set limits for ourselves sonically and stylistically as far as the palette goes.”
The pair have also confirmed five live performances – scheduled from Wednesday, March 16th to Friday, the 18th – at this month’s SXSW in Austin, Texas.
Keeler is also the bassist of Toronto dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979. That band broke up in 2006 but reunited five years later, releasing their second LP, The Physical World, in 2014. Death From Above 1979 will join forces with Eagles of Death Metal for a joint Canadian tour kicking off April 26th in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
