Hear Miguel’s Scorching New Dance Song ‘Cadillac’

Miguel released a glitzy new cut “Cadillac,” off the soundtrack for The Get Down, Netflix’s new period drama about the birth of hip-hop in late-Seventies Bronx, New York.

The track premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show and deftly blends contemporary production, like a rumbling bass synth, with distinctly retro disco: the kinds of sounds that would’ve been spun at the parties where hip-hop originated. Miguel is scintillating as ever, singing, “Heaven’s in the backseat of my Cadillac/ Let me take you there” as strings crescendo alongside horns.

“Cadillac” follows the demo for “How Many,” a new song inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement that Miguel released in July after the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. In June, Miguel also released “Come Through and Chill,” which features production from frequent collaborator Salaam Remi. Miguel did not reveal whether or not the song indicated an imminent follow-up to his 2015 LP, Wildheart.

As for The Get Down, the series was directed Baz Luhrmann and its first six episodes will premiere on Netflix August 12th. The show will also feature music from Nas, who served as a producer alongside hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash; Kurtis Blow, Kool Herc and the Furious Five’s Rahiem also contributed to the show.
