Hear Lady Gaga’s New, Driving Song ‘Perfect Illusion’
Lady Gaga has unveiled her new single, “Perfect Illusion.” The song hails from her as-yet untitled fifth studio album.
Gaga co-produced the tune alongside Mark Ronson, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Bloodpop (formerly known as Blood Diamonds).
The singer addresses the pitfalls of mistaking the rush of a crush for something deeper on the driving dance-rock number. “It wasn’t love/ It wasn’t love/ It was a perfect illusion,” she sings. “Mistaken love/ It wasn’t love/ It was a perfect illusion.”
In May, Ronson told Charlie Rose in an interview that Gaga was taking a more “analog” approach on her new album. “She’s never played guitar in public before…but guitar is something she’s learning for this record,” he teased, adding, “That side of her, I don’t think a lot of the world has seen. It’s really great to make this very honest, authentic, kind of analog record with her.”
Gaga’s collaborative duet album with Tony Bennett, Cheek to Cheek, was released in 2014. Her as-yet untitled follow-up to 2013’s Artpop is expected to arrive this year.
