Hear Kelly Clarkson’s Pulse-Racing New ‘Heartbeat Song’

The single, the singer’s first since giving birth last June, comes from her upcoming LP ‘Piece by Piece’

Following a year spent largely out of the spotlight to start a family, Kelly Clarkson has returned with a new single dubbed “Heartbeat Song.” The uptempo track is the singer’s first since becoming a mother this past June. Clarkson also revealed to the Elvis Duran Morning Show that her seventh album will be titled Piece by Piece, and that it will arrive the first week of March.

Clarkson told Duran that she recorded “Heartbeat Song” before, during and after her first pregnancy with daughter River Rose Blackstock. While the dance track itself is about meeting someone who restores your faith in love and defibrillates the heart, lyrics like, “Until tonight I only dreamed about you/I can’t believe I ever lived without you” could very well double as a tribute to Clarkson’s eight-month-old daughter. River Rose has also played a hand in promoting the new single:

“Heartbeat Song” was co-written by Clarkson’s longtime collaborator and former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and produced by Greg Kurstin, who previously worked with Clarkson on her Grammy-nominated single “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).”

Earlier this year, Clarkson tweeted about what direction she took on her new album. “People keep asking,” she wrote. “My next album is pop. But I am always influenced by music I love, which is pop-rock/country/r&b/dance. Oh, and people also keep asking about the duet on the record. Here’s a hint… this wasn’t our first time to sing together :)”
