Hear Joe and Jill Biden’s Thoughtful Summer 2016 Playlist
A day after President Barack Obama revealed his summer days and nights playlists, Vice President Joe Biden and wife Dr. Jill Biden have shared their seasonal mix on Spotify.
Like Obama’s eclectic picks, the Bidens cull from numerous genres, including classic rock (The Beatles’ “Come Together,” Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful,” Bruce Springsteen’s “We Take Care of Our Own”), showtunes (Les Miserables‘ “Do You Hear the People Sing?”), soul singers (Al Green, Ray Charles, Tina Turner) and contemporary hits (Adele’s “Hello,” Coldplay’s “Til Kingdom Come,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”).
Notably, the Bidens’ playlist also features Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens to You,” which the vice president introduced during the 2016 Academy Awards; prior to Gaga’s performance of the song – taken from The Hunting Ground, a documentary on sexual assaults on college campuses – Biden asked the Oscars audience to “take the pledge. A pledge that says, ‘I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.’ Let’s change the culture.”
Coldplay’s “Til Kingdom Come” also holds special significance to the Bidens as frontman Chris Martin performed a solo acoustic rendition of the track at the funeral of Joe’s son Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer in May 2015.
Other songs on the Bidens’ playlist include Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons’ “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and k.d. lang’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
