Hear Jack White’s Eerie Acoustic Mix of Raconteurs’ ‘Carolina Drama’
Jack White has unveiled a striking acoustic mix of the Raconteurs‘ epic murder ballad, “Carolina Drama.”
The previously unreleased version retains much of the same eerie instrumentation heard on the original, which closed the Raconteurs’ 2008 LP Consolers of the Lonely. But without Patrick Keeler’s drums, “Carolina Drama” takes on a sparse backcountry feel, fraught with fiddle scrapes and the tinny twang of acoustic guitar strings while the harrowing chanting that carries the song to its end roils underneath.
The acoustic mix of “Carolina Drama” will appear on White’s upcoming double LP rarities collection, Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998 – 2016, out September 9th via Third Man Records/Columbia Records. The album will feature B-sides, remixes and alternate versions of tracks from throughout White’s career alongside the previously unreleased White Stripes song, “City Lights.”
White will also make his first ever solo acoustic TV appearance September 9th on The Tonight Show.
