Hear Future’s Knockout ‘Creed’ Cut ‘Last Breath’

The ever-prolific Future is back with a inspiring new track titled “Last Breath,” which will feature in the upcoming Rocky sequel Creed. Just as Creed reboots the Rocky franchise by focusing on the son of Apollo Creed – Sylvester Stallone’s boxer will appear in a coaching role – “Last Breath” similarly calls back to the boxing saga’s original series by building a Ludwig Goransson and Metro Boomin-produced beat around Bill Conti’s Oscar-nominated theme song “Gonna Fly Now.”
“Last Breath” arrives after the rapper’s DS2 and his joint LP with Drake What a Time to Be Alive. Although the track touts all the hallmarks of a classic Future cut – hustling and “Xans” feature prominently – Future does weave some boxing imagery into the lyrics. “I got that beast in my house / I’m like Tyson / With my heart and my drive / I know I’m righteous / Keep some ice on me, Rocky / Rocky like Balboa,” Future rhymes, referencing both real and imaginary boxing legends. On the chorus, backed by a choral arrangement and a tolling bell, Future promises, “I’ll be a fighter ’til the end / ‘Til my last breath / I’ma hustle / ‘Til my last breath.”
According to Hot New Hip Hop, the Creed soundtrack will also include a collaboration between Vince Staples and Childish Gambino titled “Waiting for My Moment”; the film’s composer Goransson previously served as producer on Gambino’s Because the Internet and Camp LPs.
Creed hits theaters November 25th. In the film, Michael B. Jordan plays Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky Balboa’s adversary-turned-friend Apollo Creed.
