Hear Florence and the Machine’s Stunning Song for Tim Burton Movie

Florence Welch collaborated with director’s on upcoming film ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’

Florence and the Machine unleashed a sprawling, cinematic new song, “Wish That You Were Here,” set to appear in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which arrives September 30th.

Employing a classic soft-loud structure, “Wish That You Were Here” finds Florence Welch singing wistfully over a distant keyboard and string plucks, all of which build slowly into a bombastic chorus that’s as determined as it is heartbreaking. “And I never minded being on my own,” Welch belts, “Then something broke in me and I wanted to go/ To be where you are/ But even closer to you, you seem so very far.”

“Having been on tour, I’ve lived in a sort of magical time bubble, where the days almost blend together. It’s amazing, but it comes at a cost — a cost of leaving the people you love behind for a year or two,” Welch said. “You kind of feel like if you could sing a song into the wind, maybe the wind could take it to them in a way that you can’t with a text or a call. You just want to send your love in a different way, in a way to somehow reach the unreachable.”

Welch collaborated with Burton on “Wish That You Were Here,” which will play during the end credits of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The song will be available to purchase on all digital retailers tomorrow, August 26th.
