Though still centered around the same beguiling bird call-like loop, Diplo’s production is unsurprisingly busier than the Blaqstarr-helmed version M.I.A. first released. The club-ready track boasts a pounding kick drum and serpentine guitar line, while record scratches and other clattering percussion filter in and out throughout the song.
M.I.A. released “Bird Song” last week, though at the beginning of the month had said the Diplo version would arrive August 12th. Last Saturday, August 13th, however, M.I.A. called out Interscope for not clearing the song for release in a series of tweets. On Thursday morning, the musician posted a Periscope video revealing that the issue had been solved.
Both versions of “Bird Song” will appear on M.I.A.’s new album, A.I.M., per a new track list posted to Instagram. The album will also feature guest appearances from Zayn Malik and Dexta Daps. A.I.M. is set to arrive September 9th and follows 2013’s Matangi.
