Hear Chuck Ragan’s Rootsy New Album ‘Till Midnight’

Chuck Ragan’s fourth solo LP Till Midnight opens with a song that sounds like late Springsteen, his rough voice singing lines like, “We only have til midnight until we break out and cut up trials on our own” before being joined by a few more for a triumphant chorus. But from there the record moves toward the heavier Americana one would expect from a list of collaborators that includes Ben Nichols of Lucero, Dave Hause of the Loved Ones, Social Distortion drummer David Hidalgo Jr. and singer-songwriter Jenny O.
“I wanted the entire cast to feel as free as possible and simply do what they do best along, with everyone keeping an open mind to any ideas or paths that were put on the table,” explains the Hot Water Music frontman. Reconvening with Covering Ground producer and Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn helped facilitate this exchange. “This time around, Thorn was even more enjoyable to work with as we’d already established our own language in the studio, and it seemed everything flowed more frequently and easily.”
We’re premiering the full album here now; Till Midnight will be officially available on March 25th by SideOneDummy.
