Carly Rae Jepsen has released another synth-heavy, Eighties-inspired love song off her upcoming LP Emotion. This time, it’s the heart-wrenching, lovesick track “Your Type.”
“I want you to miss me when I’m not around you,” Jepsen sings on the track about the desire to be more than friends with her romantic interest. The electro-pop track has less urgency than her previously released songs, including “Run Away With Me” and “Making the Most of the Night.”
Jepsen launched her new album with the March single, “I Really Like You.” The shimmering, catchy track was accompanied by a silly video featuring Tom Hanks lip-syncing the single and a joyful cameo from Justin Bieber.
Her next video for single “Run Away With Me” was a more intimate, DIY clip. Directed by David Kalani Larkins, the video followed Jepsen through adventures in Tokyo, Paris and New York as she sang the tune.
Emotion will be released on August 21st via Schoolboy Records/Interscope. It’s Jepsen’s third LP and follows up her 2012 U.S. debut Kiss, which was led by her breakthrough hit “Call Me Maybe.” In the process of creating her new album, Jepsen recorded in New York, Stockholm and Los Angeles. She found herself co-writing the tracks with a diverse collection of both indie and Top 40 songwriters and producers, including Sia, Shellback, Greg Kurstin, Ariel Rechtshaid, Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij.
