Hear Big Boi’s Lusty New Verse in Maroon 5’s ‘Animals’ Remix
Big Boi sets out on a stampede of salacious rhymes in a new remix of “Animals,” Maroon 5‘s latest single off their latest LP, V. The new version, which arrives via Pigeons and Planes, peels back a few layers of the pulsating original, placing a relentless kick drum up front and flipping the driving chorus into a sparkling fever dream.
His mouth running in double-time, Big Boi eases into the track with the outlandish declaration, “I am – one of a kind like a white lion.” From there the Outkast quick-spitter weaves a verse that alternately boasts his sexual prowess and praises his number one girl. “Another hashtag, Stevie Wonder, you will never see this either,” he raps before he compares caressing cleavage to reading braille.
V came out in September, debuting at Number One on the Billboard Top 200. Because frontman Adam Levine is currently serving as a judge/coach on The Voice, the band is set to tour behind V next year, with a number of dates scheduled in North America and Europe. The trek kicks off in February, but first Maroon 5 will play the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on December 30th and 31st.
Over the summer, Levine spoke to Rolling Stone about the general perception of Maroon 5’s music, which he said was best captured in an episode of Lena Dunham’s Girls: “[T]here was like this perfect commentary on our music because they were a car full of cute girls singing our songs, and everyone’s having fun but then there’s the one brooding dude who fucking hates it and wants to kill it. Maybe his anger and hatred has something to with secretly maybe liking it, not wanting to admit it, so he beats the shit out of the stereo and he breaks it. I mean, if that’s not Maroon 5 in a nutshell, I don’t know what is.”
