Hear Bassnectar’s Daring New Album ‘Noise vs. Beauty’ – Premiere
In order to make his new album, Noise vs. Beauty, Bassnectar needed to stay in one spot for more than a night at a time. So he gave up touring for six months, using his time at home to experiment with a few new recording and songwriting techniques. “After I got songs together that sounded like Bassnectar songs to my ears, I remixed them as only acoustic guitar, piano and my vocals,” the DJ and producer told Rolling Stone. “I took those interpretations of my songs and I sent them to MCs, vocalists, singer-songwriters, indie bands, and started working on these new personalities with these other people and collaborated with over 50 people.”

Now, the product of those collaborations, a 15-song LP far removed from Bassnectar’s original acoustic demos, is ready to be heard: Noise vs. Beauty will go on sale tomorrow and can be streamed today exclusively at Rolling Stone. Aside from Baltimore rapper Rye Rye, who appeared on single “Now,” the guests that made it to the final release include Oakland duo Zion I, 16-year-old vocalist Jenna Sousa and Jantsen, a Colorado bass DJ.
“It’s almost like if music is the message, noise is the vessel that carries the message,” Bassnectar said of the album’s title. “The two can really fuse together, they can oppose, because noise can be hectic and annoying and screechy, haunting, frightening. Beauty can be calming, loving, ethereal, enchanting, inspiring, but the two can come together in these combinations that are worth theming a record over. ”
