Hear Barbra Streisand’s Trump-Dissing New Song ‘Don’t Lie to Me’

Legendary singer will release ‘Walls,’ her first album of primarily original material since 2005, on November 2nd

Barbra Streisand takes aim at President Donald Trump with her rousing new song “Don’t Lie to Me.” The single will appear on her forthcoming album Walls, out on November 2nd.

Streisand co-wrote the pop ballad, which sees her begging for Trump to tell the truth. “How do you sleep when the world keeps turning?/ All that we built has come undone,” she sings on the catchy hook. “How do you sleep when the world is burning?/Everyone answers to someone.”

Walls is Streisand’s first album of primarily original material since her 2005 collaborative LP with Barry Gibb, Guilty Pleasures. “I had to write this song,” Streisand told Billboard about the new single. She has written frequently about “the Liar-in-Chief, the Groper-in-Chief,” as she describes him, for The Huffington Post. “These times gave me energy.”

Originally titled What’s On My Mind, Streisand decided to call the album Walls after reading a lyric for the song of the same name that appears on the LP, which was written by her friends Marilyn and Alan Bergman. “Then I had an idea for the cover,” she notes, “me against this wall. The wall of society, the walls of this presidency, the walls that obstruct justice. Yet there’s a light coming in and hope for the future. We have to grow as a nation, we just have to grow out of this and see the light; that’s all I can say.”
