Hear AWOLNATION’s Rapturous New Song ‘Windows’

AWOLNATION returned to the line of duty last month with “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf),” the initial offering off their upcoming LP, Run. Now, Rolling Stone premieres the synth rockers’ latest album cut, “Windows.”
“Windows” finds AWOLNATION mastermind Aaron Bruno searching for a balance between blissful and abrasive: Over sparse, bass-heavy production, Bruno lets his voice run ragged before jumping into his upper register as a soft piano line tumbles out of nowhere. Bit by bit, the song melds the two sections together until they combine at the end, as Bruno howls over thumping drums and delicately anthemic piano.
To celebrate Run‘s March 17th release on Red Bull Records, AWOLNATION have scheduled a special South by Southwest gig on March 19th at ACL Live Theater, where they’ll be joined by Big Data and Family of the Year. The band is also set to perform “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 11th. A full list of North American tour dates in support of Run will be announced in the coming week.
Run is currently available for pre-order online, and all purchases come with an instant download of “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” and “Windows.” The album was written, recorded and produced by Bruno, and follows up the group’s 2011 debut LP, Megalithic Symphony, which boasted the breakout single, “Sail.”
In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, Bruno discussed the new directions he hoped to take his music in with the band’s next album, noting he’d had plenty of downtime to conceptualize while on the road. “The first record was really about more world issues and the discovery of the reality of how stuff works and how we are as humans,” he said. “But this one seems to be a little bit more reflective, more about human relationships.”
