Hear Alessia Cara’s Inspirational, Lin-Manuel Miranda-Penned ‘How Far I’ll Go’

New song featured on soundtrack for Disney’s upcoming ‘Moana’

Alessia Cara gives a taste of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s original music for Disney’s Moana with the inspirational and sweet “How Far I’ll Go.” Moana will be released on November 23rd.

The uplifting song is a perfect fit into the Disney canon, with Cara belting lyrics about persevering to achieve her dreams in spite of her imperfections or detractors. “See the line where the sky meets the sea/It calls me/No one knows/How far it goes,” she sings on the power ballad.

Moana tells the tale of a Polynesian princess who goes on a search for a mysterious island. Hawaiian teenager Auli’i Cravalho makes her film debut as the title character alongside Dwayne Johnson, who plays demigod Maui. Nicole Scherzinger and Phillipa Soo also contributed vocal work to the film.

Moana is Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first major project after exiting Hamilton, though he began his work on the film’s score and songs while still performing in the show. Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina also contributed original music to the soundtrack.
