HBS’ Ben Shepherd Takes Acoustic Turn in ‘Collide’ – Premiere
Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd released his debut solo LP In Deep Owl under the monicker HBS last month. The project began in 2009 partly as a "where is he now" note to the world, and also as a way to get reacquainted with his old acoustic guitar (some goading from his friends Dave French and Chad MacMurray also helped). While Shepherd has said that moving sessions for In Deep Owl to his buddy Gerry Amandes' studio – which happens to be behind a sex club – was the result of a record that kept getting louder, Shepherd didn't stray completely from the album's acoustic origins: take an exclusive first look at this simple black-and-white clip that finds him plucking out an acoustic version of the gorgeous, unsettling album cut "Collide." In Deep Owl is currently available on iTunes.
