Adding another notch to his impressive resume of superhero soundtracks, composer extraordinaire Hans Zimmer is reuniting with Man of Steel director Zack Snyder to score the film’s upcoming sequel, tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman

‘Man of Steel’ Composer Hans Zimmer Offers Glimpse of Creative Process

“We’ve already had a couple of chats,” Zimmer said in an interview with Digital Spy, explaining that he and Snyder have already put their collaborative wheels in motion. “Once I finish the movie that I shall not talk about [possibly referring to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi epic Interstellar], I will probably head over to where Zack is shooting his movie and just hang out a bit and see if we can come up with any ideas.”

After scoring Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Zimmer had recently expressed hesitation to revisit the world of Gotham City. And while he hasn’t yet composed any music for the Man of Steel sequel, he’s now wrestling with how to score Snyder’s unique vision of Batman (played, with infamy, by Ben Affleck).

“That’s my problem, that’s my dilemma,” he says. “I don’t want to betray, if that’s the right word, the Dark Knight movies,” he said. “That was Christian (Bale); it was Christian’s role. It’s not just that it was nine years of our lives, so you want to stay honest and honourable to that period. So it’s really about, ‘Is there something else I can find that I haven’t tapped into?’ Which I don’t know until I sit down with Zack.”

Batman vs. Superman won’t hit theaters until May 6th, 2016. But Zimmer is keeping busy: He recently collaborated with Pharrell Williams on a score for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and is composing a classical piece to mark the 10th anniversary of Belgian EDM festival Tomorrowland.

Zimmer’s new 10-minute composition for the festival, recorded at London’s Air Studios, is meant to represent the “mystical qualities” and “magical atmosphere” of the festival. “Tomorrowland is a known quantity to me,” he says. “And after 10 years, I think they deserve something decent for their anniversary. It should be culturally diverse and somehow represent the whole world. The hymn is about bringing different cultures together, and all the things that make us different are actually the things we should be celebrating.”

The 2014 festival will take place July 18th to 20th and July 25th to 27th.
