Hank Williams Jr. Officially Dropped From ‘Monday Night Football’
After a 20-year association, Hank Williams, Jr. has officially parted ways with ESPN’s Monday Night Football telecast due to his recent controversial comments, the network announced today. On Monday, after the singer likened President Obama’s golf game with House Speaker John Boehner to “Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu,” ESPN dropped the singer’s well-known opening performance from that night’s broadcast.
On his website, Williams claimed the decision to part was his. By pulling the plug on his traditional “All My Rowdy Friends” intro, ESPN “stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE,” he wrote. “It’s been a great run.”
