Smash Broadway musical 'Hamilton' will launch a national tour in 2017, with runs in San Francisco and Los Angeles already announced

Hamilton has been Broadway’s toughest ticket, but the chance to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit just got easier as the smash musical will be heading out on a national tour.

For now, two California runs have been announced to launch the tour, with the cast hitting San Francisco’s SHN Orpheum Theater beginning in March 2017 for a 21-week run before performing at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Pantages Theater from August 11th – December 30th of that year.

Prior to the tour, an open-ended Chicago run will begin on September 27th at the city’s PrivateBank Theater. According to The New York Times, the show’s team is exploring a London production as well. The original show will remain on Broadway indefinitely.

Hamilton has been a success since its off-Broadway premiere at the Public Theater. It officially opened on August 6th, 2015 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the same home as Miranda’s debut and breakthrough musical In the Heights. The Pulitzer-nominated, Tony Award-winning Miranda wrote the music, lyrics and book of the hip-hop musical based off Ron Chernow’s in-depth biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Miranda’s work was recognized with a MacArthur “Genius” Award last year.

The show has garnered a significant following and many famous fans, including President Barack Obama. Obama attended the musical on Broadway twice and hosted a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at one of the shows last November that included a 20-minute speech from the president following the performance.

Most recently, The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon joined Miranda for a digital Ham4Ham performance, a series that began as entertainment for the droves of fans who would attempt to get lottery tickets for the show. Fallon performed the song “You’ll Be Back” in the style of David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan and other famous rock stars.
