Pop–rock family band Haim have lined up a hefty slate of tour dates to close out this year and take them well into the next. The trio of sisters, who just released their critically adored debut Days Are Gone, have a slew of U.K. and European dates going into 2014 (including a handful with Phoenix), as well as shows in Japan and Australia at the top of the year. The group will return Stateside  on April 9th at the Fillmore in San Francisco, though you’ll also be able to catch them this weekend as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live alongside host Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Haim’s ‘Days Are Gone’ and 25 More Albums You Need to Hear This Fall

The Haim sisters – Danielle, Este and Alana – first began playing music with their parents, but were writing songs as a trio by 2007. For years, they played around the California indie circuit with acts including Jenny Lewis and Dawes, and secured opening gigs for Florence and the Machine and Mumford & Sons. The live gigs were good practice, but it was the Strokes‘ Julian Casablancas who advised Haim to take a bit more time crafting songs off the stage.

They recorded Days Are Gone during breaks from touring. Produced in part by James Ford (Florence, Arctic Monkeys) and Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher, Vampire Weekend); the record sold 90,000 copies in its first week, which prompted Jay Z to write them a congratulatory note. And while Casablancas’ advice proved invaluable in terms of Haim’s songwriting, the group’s experience playing arenas helped them craft a heftier sound on record and taught them the ins and outs of performing in big venues: “In small venues, you don’t have to do much for it to seem like a big gesture,” Alana recently told Rolling Stone. “On a stage as big as a house, you have to do more.”
