Gwen Stefani hyped her new single, “Make Me Like You,” by creating a music video for the track live on-air during the 2016 Grammy Awards. The clip, the first-ever produced live on national television, arrived during a four-minute commercial break for Target.
The Sophie Muller-directed performance featured multiple sets like a hair salon and a lounge as well as costume changes in real time, including some sleight-of-hand camerawork that allowed Stefani to put on a pair of roller skates mid-song. A second view of the performance was available via Periscope, Facebook Live and Snapchat. The end product will become the official “Make Me Like You” clip.
“Make Me Like You” is Stefani’s second single from her third studio album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, out March 18th via Interscope Records. Synth-pop ballad “Used to Love You,” was released last October and followed a pair of 2014 singles – “Baby Don’t Lie” and “Spark the Fire” – that were ultimately scrapped from the track list.
Last week, Stefani detailed both the standard, 12-track version and a deluxe, 16-track edition available exclusively at Target.
“I think I have enough for probably two albums,” Stefani said last November. “I have to write a few more songs, because I feel like, might as well keep going while it’s there.”
