Guns N’ Roses encountered more drama on their European tour last night, with Axl Rose storming off stage at Dublin’s O2 Arena after he was pelted with bottles from the crowd. Fans had been forced, as at many recent GNR shows, to wait over 90 minutes for the band to take the stage. When they finally did, they were immediately welcomed by the bottles. Midway through “Welcome to the Jungle,” Axl warned the crowd: “One more bottle and we’re going home, we’re here to have fun and we hope you are too, but one more and we are gone.” Three songs later, someone tossed another bottle, and the band left the stage, just 22 minutes after they started. (The O2 staff told the crowd Gn’R’s exit was due to “technical difficulties.”)
According to Entertainment.ie, Guns N’ Roses were ready to ditch the gig entirely but were “prevented from leaving the venue by the promoter,” who talked Rose into giving the show one more chance. After another O2 staff member pleaded with the crowd to settle down, the band continued their set — but by then, the majority of the crowd had already left the venue.
