Gucci Mane has been sentenced to 39 months in a federal prison after serving a sentence on the firearms charge for which he was indicted late last year. The federal judge who delivered the sentence said that the 34-year-old rapper might have to limit his time on the road after completing his prison time, while also saying, “according to my nieces and nephews, you are quite cool.” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Mane has served 11 months of the sentence already. If he chose to go to trial, rather than reach the plea agreement, he faced up to 10 years in prison.

In addition to the sentence, the rapper’s lawyer requested that Mane enter a drug rehabilitation program and stay on the West Coast, where he would not be influenced by his Atlanta associates. “He understands he has some work ahead of him and his goal is to bring resolution to this case and get back to performing,” Mane’s lawyer, Drew Findling, said. “He doesn’t want anything to distract him. He wants to do anything to get back to the work place and the work place is the stage.”

Mane’s probation rules will allow him to leave the Northern District of Georgia for a maximum seven days a month, depending on his probation officer’s wishes, despite the fact that a standard tour lasts about two weeks.

Police caught Mane with a 45-caliber handgun and eight rounds of ammunition last September, a time when he was serving probation for a prior felony. A couple of days later, after one of his friends called the police to report bizarre behavior, Mane was confronted by police and grew “increasingly agitated with officers and began cursing and threatening them.” At that time, he was carrying a Glock 40-caliber handgun, 11 bullets and marijuana. By December, Mane was indicted on two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

“I thank you and I definitely don’t want to withdraw my plea,” Mane told the judge who sentenced him. When he left the court, he reportedly waved at friends in the first two rows of the courtroom before being led out with his ankles in chains.
