Gucci Mane Recruits Bruno Mars, Kodak Black for New Song ‘Wake Up in the Sky’
Gucci Mane recruits Bruno Mars and Kodak Black for the rapper’s latest single “Wake Up in the Sky,” a cut purportedly off the prolific Gucci Mane’s upcoming LP Evil Genius.
Mars, who also produced the track, delivers the skyscraping chorus – “I drink ’til I’m drunk/ Smoke til I’m high / Castle on the hill / Wake up in the sky / You can’t tell me I ain’t fly / I know I’m super fly” – with the two rappers each contributing a boastful verse.
“Wake Up in the Sky” features Kodak Black’s first recorded appearance since the rapper was released from prison on August 18th after serving seven months on a variety of felony charges; Black is currently awaiting trial for sexual assault charges.
The single also reunites Gucci Mane and Mars as the rapper appeared on the remix of the singer’s 24K Magic track “That’s What I Like.”
In August, Gucci Mane teamed with Lil Pump for the single “Kept Back,” the first offering from Evil Genius, which is “coming soon.” The rapper last released his El Gato: The Human Glacier in 2017.
“I really just been compiling a bunch of songs, listening to beats,” Gucci Mane previously told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe of the upcoming album. “I went in with Metro [Boomin], I did a bunch of songs with Southside, C.N.O.T.E. [I] just really wanted to just have a chance to almost make a mixtape worth of songs with all the producers that I like. I picked maybe, like, 60 or 70 songs. I usually just take 20 songs and put them out, but this time I really recorded a bunch of songs and then picked through them.
