Grimes Gives Intense Performance of ‘We Appreciate Power’ on ‘Fallon’

Grimes and longtime collaborator Hana performed “We Appreciate Power” in a futuristic setting during Monday’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which included two dancers wielding staffs on a slowly rotating platform. The song is the singer’s first solo material in 2018.

Grimes performed while blindfolded as the two dancers used the staffs as weapons, with Hana on guitar for the industrial-flavored pop song. The stylish production featured lights pulsating to the beats and choreographed, dramatic moves, which included the dancers falling into formation with Grimes for coordinated military-style salutes and culminated in the four performers dropping to the floor and holding their poses.

The dramatic late-night show appearance mirrored the themes of the song’s lyric video, which features Grimes and Hana touting various weapons as they spin around while navigating a seemingly dystopian world. “We Appreciate Power” is slated for Grimes’ forthcoming fifth album.
