Gregg Allman Recruits Doobie Brothers, Bruce Hornsby for New Festival

Gregg Allman has partnered with Live Nation to create the inaugural Laid Back Festival. The one-day event, planned for August 29th at New York’s Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, will include performances from the former Allman Brothers frontman, the Doobie Brothers, Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band and City of the Sun. Additional artists are expected to be announced.
The festival, named after Allman’s 1973 debut solo album, will also feature over 20 curated restaurants, wineries and breweries. “Creating this fest has been a lot of fun,” the musician said in a statement. “Good music, good food and drink and a beautiful beach – what could be better?”
Laid Back VIP packages will include items like a “clam bake on the beach” and limited-edition posters. Both VIP and standard tickets will go on sale starting Friday, May 1st at 9 a.m. EST through Ticketmaster and the festival website.
After four-plus decades as a band, the Allman Brothers played their final show last October. But Allman hasn’t slowed down: In January, the jam-rock icon announced a sizable spring and summer tour, which has stretched out to include a run of co-headlining dates with the Doobie Brothers.
The singer will also appear at the Allmans-created Peach Music Fest this August, alongside Santana, Willie Nelson & Family, former bandmate Warren Haynes, Bob Weir, Bruce Hornsby, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rusted Root, G. Love & Special Sauce and many others. Tickets for the festival – which will be held at Scranton, Pennsylvania’s Montage Mountain & Water Park – are on sale now.
