Gregg Allman Cancels Winter Tour Due to Vocal Injury

Gregg Allman postponed his remaining 2016 and early 2017 tour dates on Tuesday, citing a vocal injury requiring rest. “This is the hardest thing I’ve had to do in a long, long, time,” he said in a statement. “I’ve been on the road for 45 years because I live to play music with my friends for my fans. As much as I hate it, it’s time for me to take some real time off to heal.”

The singer-songwriter plans to devote several months to his recovery before returning to the stage in 2017.

“Not making a show is a really hard decision for me because I want to play so bad, but it’s also hard on my partners and fans who make plans to be with me,” he said. “I never want to put anybody in a bad spot. I’m so grateful for the people that I work with and for the fans that come to my shows and I want to be at my best for all of them. That means I’m going to have to wait until I’m feeling really good, not just good enough like I have been. Good enough isn’t working for us all.”

Allman’s live itinerary previously included a run of November gigs at New York City venue City Winery, along with additional American dates in late December and January. The City Winery shows are now rescheduled for July 2017, and full details on the ticket transfer policy are available via Allman’s website. Allman will announce rescheduled slots for the other shows in the near future. 

While Allman will not be performing on November 9th or 10th at City Winery, the venue will host free concerts with the Gregg Allman Band. 

In August, Allman canceled 28 tour dates due to “serious health issues.” However, he did return to the stage the next month for an acoustic set at Red Rocks in Colorado, followed by a full-band set in October at his Laid Back Festival in Atlanta.
