Gogol Bordello Go Behind the Scenes of ‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’

Band offers peek at creation of new album

Ahead of the July 23rd release of Gogol Bordello’s hotly anticipated sixth album, Pura Vida Conspiracy, the gypsy-punk collective is offering a glimpse at the project’s creation. In this exclusive video chronicle of the group’s studio time at the Sonic Ranch in Texas, frontman Eugene Hütz shares the album’s overall message: “Borders are scars on the face of the planet.”

Hütz tells Rolling Stone that the disc’s opening missive, “We Rise Again,” is its “theme-defining song.” “Whenever something fantastic happens, we don’t look down, we don’t look north or south, we rise our eyes to the sky,” he says. “[There’s] something cosmic and uplifting that unites us all. . . We rise again!”

Gogol Bordello are currently bringing their self-professed “volcano of music” to European festival audiences. They will embark on a run of American theater and outdoor gigs on July 20th at the Green River Festival in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
