Giorgio Moroder is one of disco’s greatest pioneers; he produced and cowrote two of Donna Summer’s biggest hits, “I Feel Love” and “Love to Love You Baby,” and recently collaborated with Daft Punk on their hit album Random Access Memories. However, one of dance music’s most important figures had never spun a live DJ set until this past May, when Moroder visited New York as part of the Red Bull Music Academy series and held down the city’s beloved, weekly Deep Space dance night.

As one of dance music’s most forward-thinking artists, Moroder also sat down for a lengthy fireside chat with the Red Bull Music Academy, which you can hear exclusively here. The Italian producer dove into his musical history and stories behind Summer’s hits, the extreme difficulties behind his live-to-digital album E=MC², working with Daft Punk and how “Giorgio by Moroder” would make an excellent name for a fragrance. It’s a revealing look into the mind of an electronic great.
