Hear Gerard Way’s Halloween-Ready New Song ‘Baby, You’re a Haunted House’

My Chemical Romance’s frontman embraces inner ghosts on romantic power-pop song

My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way is back with a Halloween-appropriate single titled “Baby, You’re a Haunted House.” This is Way’s first new piece of solo music since 2016.

The fuzzy power-pop song reflects the Britpop twist in his sound from his 2014 debut solo album Hesitant Alien. On it, Way embraces the concept of being a haunted house and wants his lover to embrace that too. “Baby, you’re a haunted house/Better find another superstition/We’re gonna stay in love somehow/’Cause baby, you’re a haunted house.” The accompanying visual features a band dressed in skeleton costumes performing the song on VHS-like grainy footage.

Way’s brother and former bandmate Mikey Way is on bass along with Tom Rasulo on drums and Ian Fowles on guitar. In a statement, Way revealed that the song is “about all our inner ghosts and demons and what it feels like being in love and having to deal with your own internal horror show.” He also noted that he did in fact want to release the song since it’s “fitting” for the upcoming holiday.

My Chemical Romance disbanded in 2013 and Way has spent the last five years pursuing both musical and non-musical projects. Over a decade ago, he had launched his comic book series The Umbrella Academy, which has been adapted into a Netflix series set to premiere in February and starring Ellen Page and Mary J. Blige. He also partnered with Marvel and wrote an installment of the Spider-Man franchise.
