The September 14th Ramones tribute show at New York’s Bowery Electric, celebrating the band’s debut gig at CBGB 40 years earlier, was a communion of generations – from the young singer-actor John Gallagher Jr., who played the title vagabond in the Broadway adaption of Green Day’s American Idiot to original CBGB denizens the Dictators and guitarist Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys. So is this playlist, also inspired by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers‘ recent Rickenbacker-guitar shootout at Madison Square Garden; saxophonist-provocateur John Zorn‘s week-long 61st birthday party at the Village Vanguard; and the new, touring incarnation of King Crimson. The other night, I caught the first New York show by a great new-garage band from Denmark, Go Go Berlin, but their debut album, New Gold, is not on Spotify, so here’s one in a series of fresh singles by fellow Danes the Blue Van instead.
