British psychedelic rock band the Bees have recently released their album Every Step’s a Yes in the U.S. on Fiction/ATO. They’ve remixed their track “Winter Rose,” which multi-instrumentalist Aaron Fletcher explains is inspired by the band’s shared love of old-school Jamaican DJ styles. “We love real old-school Scratch [Lee “Scratch” Perry], King Tubby, Yabby U-style dubs, so we often make dub versions of our tracks. They emphasize the heavy groove aspect of what we do. This is a classic chop cut – loads of tape delay and spliced edit business – and it’s a heartfelt tip of the hat to those original dub masters,” he says.
