Foster the People: Second Album to Feature ‘More Grit’

In a recent interview with Billboard, Foster the People frontman Mark Foster discussed the band’s upcoming second album and how they hope to follow the breakout success of last year’s Torches. Citing the Clash and the Kinks as heavy influences, Foster said the next record will be “really celebratory” but will also likely “take a lot of left turns.”
“I think there’s going to be more grit, and I think it’s gonna be extremely percussive,” he said.
Though Foster revealed he has started the writing process on the road, working with a portable studio, he hopes to complete most of the songwriting after the band’s world tour wraps up this summer. He plans to visit Morocco, India, Turkey, Tunisia and other locales to help inspire the rest of the record. “I think uncomfortability sometimes produces the best art, so I’m really excited,” he said.
