The Foo Fighters are heading to Mexico City in December for their first full concert since Dave Grohl announced a hiatus in 2012. According to the band’s website, Foo Fighters will perform December 13th at the 55,000-capacity Foro Sol stadium, with the National opening.

Grohl said last October that the band would be taking a break. “I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again,” he said in a statement at the time. “It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while.”

They weren’t apart for long: guitarist Chris Shiflett told Rolling Stone in August that the group was rehearsing material for a new album. “It was a very short hiatus,” Shiflett said. “We’re going to start recording the new Foo Fighter record at the beginning of next year.”

Grohl has kept busy in the meantime, performing with Paul McCartney and former Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear at least year’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit, directing the Sound City documentary on the now-shuttered Los Angeles recording studio where Nirvana recorded Nevermind and playing drums on Queens of the Stone Age‘s new album, . .  . He also delivered the keynote address at South by Southwest (where he led the Sound City Players in one of a handful of gigs the all-star lineup played), inducted Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with bandmate Tayor Hawkins, and jammed on “Bitch” with the Rolling Stones in California.

Although Foo Fighters’ website lists just the one gig, Ticketmaster shows another concert in Mexico City two days before, on December 11th.
