Flying Lotus Unveils Two Unreleased Tracks With Thundercat

Flying Lotus has offered up two previously unreleased songs featuring frequent collaborator Thundercat, as well as an “alt experiment” of “Turkey Dog Coma,” a track off his 2014 album, You’re Dead!, Pitchfork reports.
All three cuts were made during the You’re Dead! sessions, a representative for the producer confirmed, adding that FlyLo would also be uploading some additional “random stuff.”
The two songs with Thundercat — “NO Feeer Thunnderrrcatt2010” and “Haleys Line//thundercat” — find Flying Lotus working with skittering percussion that wraps around the myriad moving parts of both tracks. “Haleys Line” is a jazzier affair with a looping guitar line, low percolating bass and swells of scatterbrain synths, while “NO Freer” spins its whirring synthesizers, occasional fog horn blasts and delirious bass groove into a surreal, somehow centered chaos.
The alternative take of “Turkey Dog Coma,” meanwhile, offers a unique snapshot of a song in-progress, with the experiment comprising elements of what would ultimately become the album version’s ethereal ending.
Since You’re Dead!, Flying Lotus has remained busy, offering a deluxe edition of the LP in 2015 and forming WOKE, a new project with Thundercat and rap duo Shabazz Palaces that released its debut single with George Clinton, “The Lavishments of Light Looking,” last September. So far in 2016, he’s provided the score for an eerie short film, FUCKKKYOUUU, directed by Eddie Alcazar; and in February he appeared on Rick Rubin’s Star Wars Headspace compilation, which mixed music, sound effects and dialog from the Star Wars franchise.
