Flashback: Lou Reed and Pete Townshend Unplug on ‘Pale Blue Eyes’
The Who’s 2006 Endless Wire world tour took them to cavernous basketball arenas all over the world, but during his downtime Pete Townshend and his longtime girlfriend, Rachel Fuller, held a series of jaw-dropping acoustic In the Attic shows. While the Who stuck firmly to new songs and their greatest hits, Townshend used the shows to explore forgotten corners of the band’s catalog. He also played with an amazing lineup of guests along the way, including a young Adele, Jack White, the Flaming Lips and many others.
One of the most memorable shows was held at New York’s Joe’s Pub in February of 2007. The bill included Amos Lee, Rachael Yamagata and J Mascis, who sang “See Me Feel Me” with Townshend. The show wrapped up with Lou Reed, who sang three Velvet Underground classics with Townshend. It’s believed to be the first time the two Sixties icons ever shared a stage. Check out their stunning performance of “Pale Blue Eyes.”
