Fiona Apple Cancels South American Tour to Be With Her Dying Dog

In a poignant letter to fans on her Facebook page, Fiona Apple announced that she’s postponing her upcoming South American tour to care for her dying dog Janet, who suffers from Addison’s disease.
“I can’t leave her now, please understand,” Apple wrote, posting scans of the handwritten copy as well. “If I go away again, I’m afraid she’ll die and I won’t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out.”
Apple recently finished up the last leg of her North American tour, and noted that upon her return the once playful pitbull “doesn’t even want to go for walks anymore.” Apple apparently found Janet as a pup in Los Angeles’ Echo Park, with a rope around her neck and bites on her ear and face , indicating the pooch was used by dogfighters to “puff up the confidence of the contenders.”
The South American leg of Apple’s tour behind The Idler Wheel . . . was set to kick off November 27th in Porto Alegre, Brazil. No word yet on when those dates will be rescheduled, but Apple promised she would make up the shows.
“Sometimes it takes me 20 minutes to pick which socks to wear to bed,” Apple added. “But this decision is instant. These are the choices we make, which define us. I am not the woman who puts her career ahead of love and friendship. I’m the woman who stays home, and bakes tilapia for my dearest, oldest friend.”
