Fiona Apple Boots Heckler From Show

Fiona Apple visited Portland, Oregon’s Newmark Theatre with Blake Mills last night, turning in a set that mixed folk, pop and other genres with ease. However, late in the set, the singer-songwriter had a tense encounter with a heckling audience member, leading Apple to throw the woman out of her show.

According to the Oregonian, Apple had only two songs left to play when the heckler called out, “Get healthy – we want to see you in 10 years.” Apple was visibly shaken and responded harshly: “I am healthy! Who the fuck do you think you are?” she snapped back, according to Stereogum. “I want you to get the fuck out of here. I want the house lights on so I watch you leave!” A male audience member then called out, “You’re a has-been!” As the unidentified heckler left, she found time to slip in another jab: “I saw you 20 years ago and you were beautiful!” she yelled.
After spending some time venting to the audience, Apple collected herself to perform “Waltz (Better Than Fine),” but sobbed through the track. She then apologized to the crowd and left the stage.
Apple’s next show is scheduled for tonight at the Benaroya Hall in Seattle.
