Fanfarlo Channel Island Breezes in ‘Landlocked’ – Song Premiere

British rockers get swept away in new track

Contrary to its title, “Landlocked” – the latest track from the eclectic, UK-based rockers Fanfarlo – has a breezy, island vibe. Packed with surf-guitar riffs and lush production that incorporates synths, saxophone and bongos, the track finds the band at their most existential, dreaming of an endless stretch of blue.

“It’s about reaching out from the isolation of one’s soul and how we long for that oceanic feeling,” frontman Simon Balthazar tells Rolling Stone. “‘Landlocked’ is perhaps a song about our labyrinthine mind, with its blind alleys and bewildering reflections, indistinguishable from the real thing – its staggering possibilities and heartbreaking limitations.”

“Landlocked,” taken from Fanfarlo’s upcoming third album, Let’s Go Extinct (out February 11th) arrives with an equally entrancing visual clip created by Inga Birgisdóttir, who works with Sigur Rós. Set on a hill overlooking a body of water, the video features Birgisdóttir’s sister, Lilja, twirling under a red sky. “Like our last video, it hails from Iceland,” Balthazar says.
