Although Rod Stewart has talked about the possibility of a Faces reunion in 2015, nobody seems to have told keyboardist Ian McLagan or drummer Kenney Jones. McLagan dismissed the idea of reconvening, telling Uncut magazine, as reported by NME, that he’s more interested in reuniting the Small Faces, the pre-Stewart incarnation of the band.

“Why would we fuck around with the Faces when we’ve got bigger fish to fry?” McLagan said, adding that Stewart will “have to wait until 2016 because 2015 is the Small Faces’ year.”

Stewart earlier this month said his people had been in talks with guitarist Ronnie Wood about a Faces reunion the year after next. Wood will be busy with the Rolling Stones for at least some of 2014, including a run of shows in Asia, Australia and New Zealand in March and April.

“It’s interesting that Rod announces these things without talking to me or Kenney,” McLagan said.

The Faces last reunited in 2010 with Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall on vocals in place of Stewart. Hucknall sang with the Faces when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 after Stewart canceled due to illness.

The band came together when the Small Faces broke up in 1969, after singer and guitarist Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton. Stewart and Wood, who played together in the Jeff Beck Group, joined McLagan, Jones and bassist Ronnie Lane to form the Faces. Lane died in 1997.
