The Black Keys did not skimp on the heavy when they barreled through Austin City Limits last year for a performance that will air this Saturday on PBS. Case in point: The Akron outfit’s ear-splitting rendition of Turn Blue cut “Weight of Love,” which is available to watch now.
Lumbering between psych-tinged melancholia and head-banging extravagance, frontman Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney lead their backing band through a handful of builds-and-releases. The track concludes with a riotous guitar blowout rife with high-flying harmonics that ultimately descend to a soft, ominous finish.
Rolling Stone is also premiering two previously unreleased exclusives from the band’s Austin City Limits performance: A characteristically stomping and serpentine rendition of Brothers smash “Howlin’ For You,” and a soulful, heart-ravaged performance of “Too Afraid to Love You,” a deep cut off the same LP.

The upcoming episode marks the Black Keys’ second ACL appearance, following their 2011 episode with Sonic Youth, which was filmed at the show’s former home, KLRU Studio 6A. This new episode will also feature a five-song set from J. Roddy Walston and the Business.
Austin City Limits‘ monumental 40th season returned at the top of the month with a performance from the Avett Brothers and bluegrass trio Nickel Creek. An episode featuring the Foo Fighters will follow the Black Keys’ episode on February 7th, and the season will conclude on February 14th with a broadcast of the first Austin City Limits Hall of Fame special.
That concert features performances from Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Buddy Guy, Lyle Lovett and Double Trouble. Among ACL‘s inaugural Hall of Fame class are Nelson, Double Trouble and Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well as the show’s creator, Bill Arhos, and University of Texas football coach Darrell K. Royal.
