Enrique Iglesias Injures Hand Grabbing Drone During Concert
UPDATE: Following the recent drone accident that injured Enrique Iglesias’ hand during a concert, the singer will undergo reconstructive hand surgery. The singer’s representative told The Associated Press that Iglesias will undergo the procedure on Monday.
Enrique Iglesias injured his hand during a concert in Tijuana, Mexico Saturday after the singer attempted to grab a drone that was filming the show. Iglesias’ fingers were sliced and bloodied following the incident, but the bandaged singer continued on with the rest of the performance. After the show, Iglesias hopped on a plane to Los Angeles to see a specialist for his injured hand, USA Today reports.
“During the show a drone is used to get crowd shots and some nights Enrique grabs the drone to give the audience a Point of View shot. Something went wrong and he had an accident,” Iglesias’ representative said in a statement. “He was semi-treated by crew on the side of the stage to try and stop the bleeding. He was advised to stop the show. He decided to go on and continued playing for 30 minutes while the bleeding continued throughout the show.
In the video of the incident, Iglesias uses the drone’s camera to essentially selfie himself for the 12,000 concertgoers at Tijuana’s Plaza de Toros de Playas. However, while harnessing the drone, Iglesias accidently slid his fingers into the rotor’s path, resulting in the injury. The singer then tossed the drone to the floor and bloodied up his white T-shirt.
Iglesias will have plenty of time to recover as he’s next scheduled to perform in Mexico City on July 3rd.
